Anyone having a casual look through my CD collection would quickly realise the influence that the late, great DJ, John Peel has had on my choice of listening. From my large reggae collection through to likes of Half Man Half Biscuit, Peely has been the inspiration. One of my favourite artistes from the Peel shows circa 1984/85 was Champion Doug Veitch. Born in Hawick in the Scottish borders the self styled King of Caledonian Swing was a favourite of Radio One's Peel and Andy Kershaw as well as the music magazine NME where he holds the record for the most succesive Records of the Week. Unfortunately for some reason it seems that Veitch's music has never been released on CD so anyone looking to buy his music has to be content with second hand vinyl from the likes of e-bay. Thanks to Fruitier_Than_Thou blog however you can hear Veitch's unique blend of reggae, cajun, dub, country and folk here on this 1985 Andy Kershaw radio session. LISTEN_HERE!!!
