Ah, the flexi-disc. every fanzine editor's dream. It seems that every indie band of the C86 era featured on at least one of these flimsy records early in their careers. This one however was the first release from a local label called Hi-Fibre which was run by the guys from The Big Gun. As far as I know the only other release on the label was a 7" single also by The Big Gun called Heard About Love/Happens All The Time. You can imagine what sort of sound the band made just by learning that on the run out groove to that single were etched the words 'Just like Edwyn'. The a-side to the single was played by John Peel on at least one occasion, the night I heard it on his show was also the very first time I heard Public Enemy on the radio which goes to show the diversity of the music on the Peel show. And that would be that as far as this flexi goes. Another tiny entry in the history of Scottish pop music except the second track on the flexi is by another guy who had spent years playing in local bands in Irvine, one Basil Pieroni. His contribution to this flexi in 1986 probably looked to be his only recorded output but Basil is now better known for being the guitarist in excellent Glasgow band Butcher Boy who have released 2 albums to date.

The Big Gun track Heard About Love was also included on the compilation album 'The Sound of Leamington Spa Volume 2' which can sometimes be found for sale on e-bay. Other bands on the album include The Groove Farm, Passmore Sisters, Benny Profane and Phil Wilson.
